Alan Creedy and Danny Jefferson tackle another big question in the latest episode of “Two Guys and a Question,”a podcast where the two industry stalwarts focus on key issues facing funeral directors to stimulate debate and collaboration.
The latest episode, titled “When Tasks Defeat Purpose,” highlights some simple ways funeral directors can escape the busy work they often get so bogged down in, so they can build stronger connections with families and deliver more value.
In the podcast, Jefferson observes that if you conduct an online search to determine what a funeral director does, most of what you will find revolves around tasks, such as transferring the deceased.
That is telling, Creedy said.
“Funeral directors tend to limit the scope of their thinking to the tasks that need to be accomplished,” he observed.
Jefferson, however, has approached his craft differently. For instance, a funeral director should make it a priority to ask someone about what their loved one enjoyed and what they did – not their vital statistics.
“So, when you ask someone what your mother’s name … are you engaging with that person to get to know them better, or are you filling out a form?” Creedy asked. Sadly, many times, it’s because a funeral director is filling out a form, Creedy said.
In the podcast, the two men share a variety of tips to forge deeper, longer-lasting connections with families – all while moving closer to your true purpose.
