Homesteaders Life Company recently issued its 2025 annual report, celebrating its 120th anniversary and updating the deathcare profession on its strong momentum.
Steve Shaffer, president, CEO and board chair, reflected on the year, writing, “In 2025, Homesteaders issued more policies than ever and paid a record number of claims. We surpassed $5 billion of in-force policies while maintaining a 99% customer satisfaction rating — results that reflect both growth and disciplined execution. We have also been intentional about building for the future, modernizing the preneed experience through online enrollment, digital solutions and expanded integrations that create seamless connections for funeral homes and families, while maintaining the financial strength our partners depend on.”
He continued, “Our commitment extends beyond products and technology. We continue to invest directly in funeral providers, surpassing $250 million through our lending program — strengthening independent operators and supporting growth and succession at a critical time. Combined with strong policy growth and a record start to 2026, this reflects meaningful shared progress and the strength of our partnerships.”
Other highlights from the report include:
- In 2025, the company’s account executives connected with nearly 36,000 funeral providers, deepening their understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing funeral professionals. “As the industry evolves, so does our program — building a sales team that ensures continuity, consistency and an even higher level of support now and in the years ahead,” the report states.
- In 2025, AM Best Company, a global rating agency focused on the insurance industry, affirmed the company’s financial strength rating of A- (Excellent) with a stable outlook. “This independent affirmation reflects our strong operating performance, disciplined capital management and consistent execution of long-term strategy,” Homesteaders states.
- Homesteaders remains a committed supporter of the Funeral Service Foundation, recognizing its important role in advancing education and leadership within the profession. “As one of the Foundation’s leading contributors, Homesteaders is approaching $1 million in lifetime donations – a meaningful investment in the future of funeral service.”
