In support of that commitment, Milestone Funeral Partners has announced several new appointments and promotions within its Accounting Department.
These additions reflect the company’s continued investment in experienced financial professionals who will help drive operational excellence, support sustainable growth, and ensure the highest level of service to the funeral homes, cemeteries, and cremation providers that make up the Milestone family.
Promoted to manager of accounting, Alex Peterson has played an integral role in strengthening Milestone Funeral Partners’ financial operations since joining the organization. Alex began his career in 2016 with what is now Canyon View Credit Union, where he started as a part-time teller while attending college. Through hard work and dedication, he advanced into a supervisory role within the call center before transitioning into the accounting department. After gaining valuable experience in public accounting, Alex was drawn to Milestone by the opportunity to contribute to a growing organization with a strong culture and vision. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Utah and was a member of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor society for accounting and finance students. Outside of the office, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and takes every opportunity to get outdoors, whether hiking, biking, fishing, visiting the beach, or cheering on University of Utah football, and UMaine Black Bears Hockey. In his new leadership role, Alex looks forward to helping support Milestone’s continued growth and is grateful for the confidence and opportunity provided by the company’s leadership team.
Joining Milestone Funeral Partners as an accounts payable specialist, Karen Reid brings more than 25 years of diverse accounting and financial experience to Milestone. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of roles spanning accounting, banking, and healthcare finance, including positions in a hospital patient financial department and as a bank teller before advancing into loan servicing. Karen earned her associate’s degree in accounting and is excited to contribute her extensive knowledge and dedication to Milestone’s growing finance team. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two adult sons, her eight-year-old granddaughter, and her beloved German Shepherd. Karen says she was both excited and nervous when she joined Milestone, but quickly found a welcoming culture that confirmed she had made the right decision. She looks forward to building a long and rewarding career with the organization while supporting its continued growth.
As a staff accountant, Hunter Smart joins Milestone Funeral Partners with a strong foundation in accounting, customer service, and operational leadership. Hunter began his professional career with Enterprise Mobility in 2023 through the company’s Management Trainee program, where he developed exceptional communication and customer service skills while learning the day-to-day operations of a high-performing branch. After being promoted to Management Assistant, he built strong partnerships with local dealerships and body shops while mentoring and training new team members. In late 2024, Hunter transitioned into Enterprise’s Accounting Department as a Staff Accountant, where he further developed his organizational, analytical, and time management skills by consistently meeting deadlines and supporting financial operations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Assumption University, with a minor in Fraud Examination and Forensic Accounting. Originally from Oakland, Maine, Hunter now resides in the Boston area and enjoys spending time with friends, watching television and movies, and making the most of summer with days on the lake alongside family and friends. He is excited to continue growing his accounting career with Milestone and is proud to contribute to an organization whose work makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the families it serves.
Joining Milestone Funeral Partners as a staff accountant, Armand Potgieter brings more than seven years of experience in financial accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. A registered Associate General Accountant (South Africa) (AGA(SA)), Armand has built a diverse career across both public accounting and private industry, providing expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, audit preparation, and strategic financial analysis. Originally from South Africa and now residing in Auburn, Maine, he completed his Chartered Accountant training contract and holds an Advanced Diploma in Accounting Sciences from the University of South Africa (UNISA), a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Accounting, and a Higher Certificate in Financial Accounting from Akademia University. Outside of work, Armand enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, playing tennis and golf, and participating in community and team-building activities. He is excited to join Milestone Funeral Partners and contribute his financial expertise to an organization whose commitment to supporting local communities, empowering its partner firms, and serving families with compassion closely aligns with his own personal and professional values.
