The National Funeral Directors Association recently issued a special bulletin to members, advising them that the United States Postal Service, which is the only shipping company that ships cremated remains, is revising its regulations.
According to the bulletin, which it gave its permission to be shared with the readers of FuneralVision.com, to increase the visibility of packages containing cremated remains and to ensure those packages are more secure for processing and a timely delivery, effective March 1, 2025, customers will be required to use USPS Priority Mail Express Cremated Remains boxes (BOX-CRE) for all cremated remains shipments. This includes remains shipped as jewelry, blown glass or other artisan works of art
The NFDA recommends that funeral professionals order a few cremated remains kits to keep on hand to serve customers. Please go to the Postal Store by clicking on the link below

If you do not have any kits in stock, the NFDA advises funeral professionals to inform families that they must order the kits online from the Postal Store if they are going to ship remains; post offices will only have a limited number of kits in stock
