SCI Direct has announced the promotion of longtime funeral service professional Jamie Helfenstein to vice president of services, a move that underscores the company’s continued emphasis on service excellence, operational leadership, and family-centered care.

The announcement was shared this week via SCI Direct’s LinkedIn page, where CEO Tim Nicholson praised Helfenstein’s track record and leadership within the organization.

“I’m so happy for Jamie on her well-deserved promotion from Assistant Vice President of Services and look forward to the continued impact of her leadership and the bright future ahead for the Services team under her guidance,” Nicholson said. “I know Jamie will continue to inspire excellence in every team member as she steps into this new role.”

In a post of her own announcing her promotion, Helfenstein said, “I’m incredibly grateful and thankful to the amazing teams whose collaboration and dedication make everything possible. I’m excited to continue driving Signature Service and growth together. Here’s to new challenges and shared success!”

A Career Built on the Front Lines

Helfenstein’s promotion reflects a nearly two-decade career in funeral service that began on the front lines and steadily advanced through management and regional leadership roles. She joined SCI Direct in 2018 as regional services manager for Texas, overseeing service operations across one of the company’s largest and most complex markets. She later advanced to assistant vice president of services before assuming her recent promotion to her new role.

Before joining SCI Direct, Helfenstein spent nearly a decade as a funeral home manager with Rosewood Funeral Home, serving families and leading teams across multiple locations. Earlier in her career, she trained and worked as a provisional funeral director and embalmer with Service Corporation International, grounding her leadership approach in hands-on experience

Her educational background includes an associate degree from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service and a bachelor’s degree in funeral service and mortuary science from Mid-America College of Funeral Service, further reinforcing her technical and professional foundation

A Service-First Leadership Philosophy

In comments shared by SCI Direct, Helfenstein emphasized that her leadership philosophy is rooted in empathy for the professionals she leads.

“I’ve been in their shoes,” she said. “Everything I do, I do with the mindset of remembering that I was once in the position of Services associates today.”

She also credited mentors and colleagues throughout her career for helping shape her approach to leadership and growth.

“I’ve been so fortunate and blessed to work with many amazing people over the years, who have shown me what I can accomplish if I go the extra mile,” Helfenstein said.

As vice president of services, she said her focus will be on aligning operational excellence with purpose-driven care.

“Now, as VP of Services, I have a vision I am able to share with the Services team, giving me the opportunity to ensure that our work is meaningful, family-focused, and innovative,” she said. “We’ll be able to serve families in their time of need and grow together with the heart our team has.”

Supporting SCI Direct’s National Mission

SCI Direct is a national provider of funeral, cremation, and cemetery-related services, working closely with funeral homes and deathcare professionals to support families at some of life’s most difficult moments. The services division plays a central role in ensuring consistency, professionalism and compassion across the company’s operations.

Helfenstein’s elevation to vice president signals continuity in leadership and a deepening commitment to service teams who interact most directly with families.
