Alan Creedy and Danny Jefferson, two funeral service innovators who host a popular podcast, teamed up with Tom Anderson, the publisher of Funeral Director Daily, to share a myriad of insights on funeral service during the latest episode of “Two Guys and a Question.”
On the podcast, Anderson shared how he went from being the owner/operator of the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minnesota for more than 35 years to building the Funeral Director Daily blog, which has thousands of daily readers.
Anderson also shared insights what he calls the “cremation aftermarket.”
“I don’t think we are going to stop cremations … but I have noticed families do not like getting a cardboard box or a little plastic urn to take home because they don’t know what they are going to do with it,” Anderson said.
But that means there is an incredible opportunity for funeral homes to sell jewelry with cremated remains, inter cremated remains in cemeteries, offer families innovative products such as the option to have cremated remains turned into stone via Parting Stone and have celebrations of life for loved ones after a cremation.
Anderson also shared how he built his funeral home’s market share by gaining the respect of his community, mowing the lawn at 7 a.m. and overseeing visitations at 7 p.m.
