Ring Ring Marketing Founder and CEO Welton Hong recently published an updated edition of Making Your Phone Ring with Internet Marketing for Funeral Homes, the third iteration of his groundbreaking collection of strategies for death-care firms.

Upon its original publication in 2016, Making Your Phone Ring rapidly became a go-to guide for funeral directors who wanted to generate more at-need calls and preneed contracts by leveraging cost-effective, high-ROI digital marketing tactics.

Hong delivered a comprehensively expanded second edition of the book in 2019, incorporating key technological developments over the subsequent years.

“Technology evolves faster every year — it’s truly at a blinding pace today — so it’s critical to keep funeral home owners and funeral directors apprised of the all the new developments,” Hong said.

Hong noted that the digital marketing landscape has profoundly changed in recent years, particularly through advancements in artificial intelligence, social media and local service advertisements.

Additionally, Hong noted, funeral homes had to incorporate more technology-based services in the wake of pandemic lockdowns in 2020-2022. Many of these developments, such as livestreaming funeral services and providing online consultations as needed, have been retained by forward-thinking funeral firms.

“How you need to market your funeral home today, given all the tech advancements and post-pandemic issues such as the ‘pull-forward effect,’ is very different from how it was even a few years ago,” Hong said. “That’s why it’s so important to continue educating death-care professionals on everything they need to know to compete and thrive in the current climate.”

Hong is a respected speaker at numerous funeral profession conferences and seminars, and a frequent contributor to trade publications.
